Caroline Walker’s (b 1982, Scotland) oil paintings typically depict women in solitary, intimate scenes that implicate the viewer in a sort of voyeurism.

“I’m interested in challenging the position of the viewer, particularly in relation to my female subjects.”

These fragmented narratives, glimpses of women going about their lives in both public and private environments, begin as photographic snaps (often taken covertly) which are later worked up into lustrous, luminous oil paintings. Her paintings hint at the narrative possibilities of the women pictured in different settings, but their stories are never fully revealed to the viewer.

Whatever the story may be,
we at fabfabrics are more than ready for summer dreaming.
